Like many other areas in the Netherlands, Goeree-Overflakkee lies below sea level. Land has traditionally been reclaimed from the sea by building dykes. This route takes you along the current outer dykes on the east of the island. Along the way, enjoy the vast polder and the views over Krammer-Volkerak and Haringvliet. Between the dykes and the water are bird-rich mudflats and buntings. Bring your binoculars to spot birds along the way.
