Streekmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee in Sommelsdijk takes you on a fascinating journey through no less than 2,000 years of island history. The association Streekmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee, founded in 1949 by Mr A.J. Kruider, aims to tell the story of the history of Goeree-Overflakkee in an appealing way and to preserve the heritage of the island.

A unique blend of heritage

The museum is interactive and offers several touchscreens with films about the island's genesis, fishing, harbour canals, as well as the Romans and the 1953 flood disaster. In addition, the museum displays unique finds excavated on Goeree-Overflakkee. The WO2GO Foundation has set up an exhibition about the island during the Second World War. Enjoy the typical jewellery and regional costume in the regional costume department. And admire the hoard of coins found in Dirksland. These coins are among the largest finds in the Netherlands.
