Scattered across Goeree-Overflakkee, you can find a total of twelve windmills. This includes Molen de Eendracht in Dirksland. Until 1966, the mill was a professional grinding mill. The construction is made of stone and the cap has oak shingles. A period of heavy decay followed after 1966. By 1980, it was almost a ruin.
The restoration of the mill
Restoration followed using parts of the dismantled Ooltgensplaat mill. In 2018, the latest renovation took place so that the mill is now a beautiful, historic element in rural Dirksland. A gable stone has been bricked into the mill with information from its creator. This reads:
"The foundation stone of this mill on the 12th of March 1846 by Marinus Jacobus Stoutjesdijk born in Tholen on the 22nd of December 1833."
Visit Windmill De Eendracht
The current miller of Molen De Eendracht is Arjan Mackloet. The mill is still in regular use and can be visited. Take a look when the mill is running or make an appointment to visit. Of course, you can always admire the mill from the outside, even when the miller is not present.
