Scheelhoek
The western part of nature reserve de Scheelhoek is a forest with many different types of trees. It is located next to Stellendam harbour. The great spotted woodpecker breeds there, as do the nightingale, blackhead and various species of tits. You will find not only the green walking route (short and long) but also an MTB route.
Before the closure of the Haringvliet, reed harvesting took place on the Scheelhoek. The Scheelhoek has been managed by Natuurmonumenten since 1974. The reed marsh is home to many breeding birds. Large numbers of reed warblers, reed buntings and reed warblers, for instance. But the bluethroat, marsh harrier, moustache and bearded reedling can also be found there every year.
