Slikken van Flakkee
Grazing Fjord horses look at you from under long eyelashes while loosely wagging their tails. Heck cattle and Scottish highlanders lie languidly resting by a waterhole. Slikken van Flakkee is a vast, sometimes rugged savannah landscape where peace reigns for the large herds of animals that live here.
The area forms the natural transition between Grevelingen and the island. In autumn, glasswort makes deep red islands in the water and in spring, orchids and grasswort bring colour to the landscape.
Watch the special animals from the wildlife arena, spot dozens of species of water birds and take a refreshing dip in Western Europe's largest saltwater lake. The vastness gives you a liberating feeling. Especially when the bald eagle decides to fly over.
