Birdwatching excursion by minibus: Autumn migration on Goeree-Overflakkee

During this excursion, our guide will take you on a minibus tour along the ‘ Brouwersdam ’ and around Goeree-Overflakkee. We’ll stop at various spots along the way to show you the many species of birds. Our experienced guide will provide useful tips on bird identification, spotting techniques and interesting background information.

Autumn is the perfect time to visit the south-western Delta, as it is one of the best places for birdwatching. Resident birds, passage birds and winter visitors are abundant, and we might even spot a rare species. Species that may be spotted during the autumn migration include: whinchat, wheatear, grey plover, various sandpipers, black-tailed godwit, green sandpiper or hen harrier. We also regularly spot reed birds such as the bearded reedling, bittern, little bittern and birds of prey such as the white-tailed eagle. On the ‘ Brouwersdam ’, the first winter visitors are arriving: grebes, guillemots or an early snow bunting. Too many to mention! No two tours are the same; recent sightings, the weather, the wind and the tide determine the route.

Hop on our minibus for a varied excursion with a small group of participants. Although the focus of this excursion is on birdwatching, it is also suitable for photographers. Generally speaking, there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

During this excursion, you can borrow a good pair of binoculars at no extra cost. We always take a telescope with us and usually a thermal imaging device as well, so that we maximise our chances of spotting wildlife.
