Hermes Ahmadi

Welcome to the world of Hermes Ahmadi!

When is someone welcome?

In his debut performance, Hermes explores the meaning of hospitality.

As an Afghan refugee, Hermes comes from a hospitable and generous culture, and now he uses an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of his Tikkie payments.

From his first time ‘eating’ with Dutch friends to ‘AZC weg ermee’, Hermes hopes that his jokes, stories and anecdotes will encourage the Dutch to view other cultures in a different light – but above all, come along for a good laugh.

Because after years of searching, Hermes has found a place where he always feels welcome, and that is the wonderful Dutch theatres!

You are, of course, very welcome to attend his presentation.

Hermes Ahmadi (1987) is a versatile figure on the stage. He began performing cabaret in 2018 and soon found himself in the finals of competitions including the Leeuwarder Cabaret Festival and Puck’s Cabaret Talent. Since then, he has been touring the country as a cabaret artist and comedian, amassing a rich array of stories and material. With this repertoire, he took part in the Leiden Cabaret Festival in 2024 and reached the final of Cameretten!

He also recently made his television debut in a cameo appearance on RTL’s *The Box*.

Hermes takes a narrative approach, but also goes for sharp and unexpected jokes, quirky characters and recognisable – and above all bizarre – topics, such as integration, climate change, FlixBus, frikandellen and FlitsMeister.

“An important story with an underlying critique of the system, delivered with self-deprecating humour and good jokes” – Jury of the Leiden Cabaret Festival

“It’s incredibly skilful how he intersperses his passionate, charged pieces with razor-sharp jokes” – Jury Cameretten

“Through jokes about the Efteling and the quirks of the Dutch language, Ahmadi sharply illustrates the bizarre situations you find yourself in when you have to integrate into Dutch society as a refugee” – de Volkskrant
