In this workshop, you will discover how to create strong photos with composition, perspective and minimalist elements. Not only during perfect conditions, but also in the middle of the day or in grey weather. You will learn to consciously look at lines, shapes, rhythm and textures and use them to tell a story in one image. Your workshop leader is Louise Poortvliet, nature photographer with almost 20 years of experience in landscapes, beach photography and atmospheric coastal images. Louise lets you really read the beach: where lines emerge, how rhythm and texture work, and how to bring calm and direction to your compositions. Her approach is accessible, clear and completely practical. After a brief explanation, you get to work immediately, while getting personal guidance, concrete tips and plenty of room for questions. Louise actively observes, thinks along with you and helps you further develop your vision. In this way, you will increase both your creativity and your self-confidence and you will go home with images that show how you have made great strides in a short time. What you will learn during the workshop:

  • Building compositions with guiding lines, horizon placement and balance
  • Using minimalism, repetition and texture for tranquillity and rhythm
  • Using beach elements such as sand ridges, surf, breakwaters, shells and structures
  • Choosing perspective: high/low viewpoint, wide-angle vs. telephoto lens
  • Visual storytelling: meaning, atmosphere and direction in one image
  • Looking with attention: from chaos to a clear composition

This workshop will help you look at the beach differently and photograph better. You will go home with new insights, inspiration and images you can be proud of.
