By boat in search of beaver tracks on Tiengemeten

Forest ranger Eduard has since retired. He has passed on his knowledge of the beaver on Tiengemeten to the guides, who share his passion for this large rodent. From them, you’ll learn absolutely everything about the beaver. For example, you’ll discover how beavers use their teeth, search together for all sorts of tracks and admire a log lodge up close. As you walk, you’ll learn all about the life of the beaver and look for tracks. You’ll also board our electric boat to search the water for tracks or the beaver itself. No other boats are allowed on these waters. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a beaver! Our guides know exactly where you’re most likely to spot one… A unique and exciting adventure that you’ll remember for a long time to come!

Tips from the ranger

• Please take the ferry by 7.00 pm at the latest.
• Buy your ferry ticket(s) online in advance for any time slot. This ticket, regardless of the time, is valid for travel on that day.
• Make sure you arrive well in advance of the ferry’s departure: the ferry leaves exactly on time.
• Park for free in the car park in Nieuwendijk, near the ferry (navigation: Nieuwendijk 1 in Zuid-Beijerland).
• Dogs are not allowed on this trek: that reduces the chance of spotting a beaver!
• Put on a pair of sturdy walking shoes.
• After rain/wet season, the water can be high and it can be very boggy and muddy on the island. In that case, make sure to wear high, good boots
• Wear long sleeves and long trousers.
• A jumper or jacket might come in handy for the return journey on the 22:10 ferry.
• Bring your binoculars.
• Don’t forget your insect repellent.
• This tour takes approximately 3 hours.
• Always check for ticks afterwards.
