Discovery tour for group 5 & combi in the Streekmuseum. Duration max 2 hours.
Through the educational website and the museum itself, they get a nice picture of the island and its past. They are introduced to special characters such as the 'Kofjekokertje', a boy of around twelve years old who did all kinds of chores on board, such as making coffee and cleaning. His statue stands in Middelharnis harbour. They also learn about the 'Koeienwachtertje' from Sommelsdijk, the young farm worker who helped out in agriculture from the age of nine. This statue is a tribute to all the young farm workers of earlier times. In addition, the children are told stories about the fishermen of Goeree-Overflakkee, who are an important part of local culture and history. A special part of the visit is the educational project 'The Mint Treasure'. Here, pupils from group 5/6 are invited to learn by looking and discovering. They are introduced to a real coin treasure found in Dirksland, thus becoming familiar with the cultural heritage of their own island.Prepare your class in advance via the education website, where you will find lots of fun and educational information about island history.
