If you have not experienced it yourself, you can hardly imagine it: water everywhere! No street left to see and only the attics of the houses rising above the water. Goeree-Overflakkee is among the hardest hit areas of The 1953 Disaster. The 1953 flood took very many lives on Goeree-Overflakkee. "The impact was huge. So much has not yet been told. That is why it is good to tell and pass on our stories.

The route through Stellendam passes art crumbs. These are tiles in the road surface with a letter. They show the height of the water at the time of the flood. This is to make the casual pedestrian realise what the water did and how big the impact must have been.
